Is it better to lie on my Resume to win out over the competition?
Find answers to your legal question.

Is it better to lie on my Resume to win out over the competition?

After all, employers are most interested in hiring the people who have experience in a related field, is it not better to lie on my resume and say that I do have experience in a clerical office environment to land the job. Do I have any chance of getting hired if I am truthful and write my un impressive job history?

Deception on a resume is never a good idea. Whether it helps you get called back for an interview or even hired is really a secondary concern. The primary potential risk is to your reputation and long-term interests.

Much worse than having your deception revealed in the interveiw process, say, is having it not revealed until after you have been hired. I once worked in an office where it was discovered that an employee had omitted an important item from her resume. It was a small office, and the fall out rocked all of the employees. She was very upset, and going back, would have changed it in a heartbeat.

I would recommend addressing your lack of experience head on in a coverletter or email. Something to the effect of, "While I may not have as much past experience in this area as some candidates, my enthusiasm for learning
and my independent research on the topic make me equally qualified and better suited to excel..."

It is NEVER a good idea to lie on your resume --there are ways to wordsmith your background, and ways to highlight minimal experience and tie up loose ends, but not through lies! There are many great resume services that can help, including mine! DHS

Truth is always better. Many companies will do a background check and reference check. The bad karma will come back to get you too. Once you lie you have to keep lying. Slippery slope my friend. You will get the job you deserve and you will deserve it on the truth.

helloeveryone
hello - i would not lie on your resume. many if not most companies do background checks and will find out if you lied, making their offer void. there are many ways to talk about your experiences. since you don't provide much about what experience you do have, i cant give you guidance on how to word anything. there are professional resume writers who could help you as well. good luck.
