Is it difficult to become a lawyer? Is it worth it?

I'm in high school right now. I'm in all AP and honors classes, and I've had straight As in every class since freshman year (except for Biology... in which I got a B). My favorite class is history because I actually like learning about how past events relate to each other, the patterns in history, etc; I've always enjoyed the debates and mock trials that we have. I'm really good at memorizing facts, analyzing, and doing a lot of research. I don't get nervous when I have to speak in front of people, and I tend to win arguments with everyone whenever I actually try. My weakest point would probably be understanding scientific concepts (i.e. biology, chemistry), since I'm mostly very analytical and I get frustrated with simply accepting other people's theories just because they haven't been proven wrong. Basically, I overanalyze everything and I can think of about ten different arguments for a "given fact." I know that it's a lot of work, but do you think that I, with my personality, will have a hard time pursuing a career in law?

Also, is it worth it? And by that I do not mean financially. I'm having a hard time thinking of what sector in law I could work in because I don't think my conscience could handle defending someone that I know is guilty of something like rape or murder. Would I honestly be able to help good people if I become a lawyer?

If you are to pursue, then stay clear of criminal law. Also family law could have some issues of rape, incest, or molestation. That leaves bankruptcy, corporate, real estate, civil rights and tax law which most likely be safe or personal injury.

Why not consider engineering or accounting due your love of analytical and research. Both are proven by the facts. My husband who is a lawyer, hates to have engineers on juries since they will analyze and will come up with XYZ and will not sway on their decisions. Since comfortable in public speaking, there is also politics to consider.

good luck
