Is it illegal for my job to tell me what bank I have to use?

My job tells me I have to use BMO bank for direct deposit or else they wont pay me. Is that illegal?

Do you work for that bank? If not that's what I would consider an unreasonable request and not the kind of place I'd like to work for. I'm really not sure about the legal specifics, especially in Canada (BMO is Bank of Montreal, correct?), but it sounds sketchy, it would be one thing to say that they won't give you direct deposit unless you use BMO due to some deal they have, but to not pay you at all doesn't sound right.

I'm not familiar with Canada law. In US its illegal for a company to say that.

You could make a big deal about it and go to court, but I wouldnt.
