Is it legal for a 16 y/o to work without pay during training in New York. Requesting an answer from a mature adult over 30 y/o.

In countries with the Westminister system of Government NO!

However, unsure in USA. You can find out quickly and accurately - ring the office of your locally elected member of parliament (I think you call them congressmen). His or her office staff will give you the contact details of where you can find out for certain. The USA will have laws, either national or local; which cover this - and there will be 'authorities' who can check and make sure that you receive back pay and are paid in future.

although my maturity often is questioned my age is definitely over 30
