Is it legal for a job to not allow a change in availability for religious reasons?

I am seriously about to get legal counsel if my supervisor doesn't allow me to. My head manager basically said we "don't accommodate for those reasons", but I could ask my sup and see if he would allow it (which is ironic since he is in charge of the store, not a sup).

PS: This is BestBuy, enjoy the bad PR you anti-religious pigs.

The accomodation does not have to be made as long as this applies to all employees across the board and not specifically you and your particular religion. I had this very case at my last position. The individual who was still on probation requested leave back to his country for Ramadan. I turned it down due to the probationary period. In turn, he filed a claim with the union. I won and he lost. He then went to the EEOC and filed a claim. Again, I won and he lost. There was no preferential treatment with any of the employees regardless of their religion. I am familiar with best buy and I am certain they asked on the application or in person if there was any reason(s) that would prevent you from fulfilling your work obligations (something to this effect).... The person 100% of the time responds no and after they are hired they are looking for special privileges that are covered until Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. Unless you can prove they are specifically discriminating against you and your religious affiliation, and allowing others to take leave or absences so they can practice there religious observances you have no case. I'm sorry. I know this isn't the answer you wanted.

They can...as long as they are consistent about it.

You changed the plan AFTER you were hired...no one says they have to accomodate you.

Best Buy is open 7 days a week...you knew that when you applied for the job...that is your fault, not theirs.

You can work for Chik-fil-a...they are closed on Sundays.

It also depends on whether what you are asking for is absolutely vital for your faith. Do you need Sunday off for services. Are there no other days that services are offered, or other times?

You have to be reasonable as well. Name calling is not exactly a great response for a person of deep faith. That makes me question your request of BestBuy.

I think you're leaving something out...where your boss says we "dont accomodate for those reasons" what is it you are asking?? It all depends what you are asking I guess...
