Is it legal for a physician to tape record a conversations without your knowledge? ?

If no, can you list why. And this happened to me in New Jersey.

every state's laws about recording are different. in NJ it's OK to record without telling you. this site gives the laws for every state.

There are some doctors that can record your visits without your permission. It depends on what type of visit(s) you have attended. There are some physicians especially with female clients that they have had problems with in the past, so that is why they will tape the conservations that they have with females, so they cannot turn around and sue the doctor for malpractice or for assault, as the whole visit is taped. They do this for protection for themselves, so that they cannot get lawsuits and not have anything to protect themselves.

It depends on what he is doing with it or why. It could be just for note taking and the FBI can't go around stinging everyone who flips on a voice recorder. Anyway he can't use it in court because it is then eavesdropping/ a bug.
