Is it legal for an employer to deduct a bounced check that was accepted from a customer from the employee?

My boss is threatening to take 133.00 from my paycheck because I accepted a check from a customer that ended up bouncing. Is this legal?

in the US generally NO
this is generally considered a cost of doing business but.........
there are exceptions. in many states it is legal if you agree and do so without coercion. even in those instances the deduction can not take your pay below minimum wage for every hour worked during that pay-period.

there are also some states that allow it if your conduct was a contributing factor such as you took the check against policy or failed to verify information. in those states if you showed "gross misconduct" or illegal behavior then it is legal for the employer to recoup this cost but again the deduction from your pay can not take it below minimum wage.

No. Unfortunately, it's a cost of doing business. He accepts the risk and takes the profits, you get paid hourly or on salary.

No, but check your employee handbook for any policies. I don't see how you could be responsible for that... though I don't know a lot about the nature of the transaction or your job. Still, that's what bank fees are for. Instead of charging you your boss should charge the customer for the returned check.

not that i am aware of i thought they had to contact the person that wrote it and due the returned check thing and all that call a law-er and ask them about it they can probably give you the best answer
