Well the problem is.. I work at a call center. Some people are not getting the telephone numbers from the callers. This is making the people we represent mad and they said they will not pay for the calls that don't have a phone number. Well or Supervisor told us today that from now on what ever calls that are refused will be be paid by us, another words the calls with our names on them will be deduted from our pay checks.

in South Carolina this is probably legal.
they must make this policy statement/change known in writing 7 days prior to it taking effect.
the policy change must be clearly worded and you must know the amount of the deduction.

by federal law these deductions can not take your pay below the minimum wage for each hour worked during the week of the deduction.
earned wages can not be reduced below the state or federal minimum wage whichever is higher.

Employers are *supposed* to deduct taxes and other items such as Social Security, Medicaid, etc., as well as any insurance or savings plans the employee has signed up for. I have a feeling that's not what you're asking about, but ... well, I have no idea what you *are* asking about. |

They can deduct Federal and state taxes, FICA, which is Social Security taxes, health insurance premiums, retirement (401k, IRA, etc.) They can legally deduct lots of things from your wages. |
