Depends on the job, the industry, the state you live in. Usually yes, they will blame a work shortage or something. Reapply for the job, usually they will sometimes be obligated to rehire if work picks up (again varies by state). |

yes. if the employer thinks that the staff that they got is not cutting it and doing what they are told then yes they have every right to. depends on state tho, cause i know in california, you have to go through extensive court dates and things in order to get fired :-) i dont know all laws but i do know some... |

Sure..employers are an "at will" agency..they can lay you off for absolutely nothing & get away with it. I got fired from a job once & my manager said "we don't have a good reason to let you go" I was like, "WTF, then WHY r you?!?" It's bs but they can...sorry about your luck. :-( |

Didn't Circuit City do that not too long ago? They layed off people who were getting payed decent, and told them they could apply for their old positions at a much lower wage...
So I think it is legal. I don't agree though. |

gosh i should put you in contact with my mom. something similar happened to her, and she sued and won big ... on the other hand I've had similar problems, and was just told i was out of luck (all in Oregon) ... hopefully someone more knowledgeable will answer your question, but I'll ask my mom when she gets home, and maybe email you, if she has any useful information. |
