Is it legal for bill collectors to go to your job?

If a bill collector comes to your place of business you may have grounds for a lawsuit against them. If you are unable to pay your bills and are being harassed by telephone then you need to send them a certified letter return requested and tell them to not contact you at your place of work or by telephone pursuant to the Federal Fair Credit Act. If they continue to call or contact you at work you can collect damages from them and whomever they represent. If you owe money it is in your best interest to try and work something out with them. Make sure to document any calls or correspondence and make sure to get their name and make lots of notes about what was said.

bill collectors no, a repo man yes.....

bill collecotrs can get your wages garnished though if they have a judgement against you....

No, but you have to complain to the State Attorney General if you tell them to stop and they don't. Therefore, document everything about the calls if they persist: time, to whom you spoke at the company, what was said, etc.

NO. And should one appear, they are never to reveal to your supervisor/manager/receptionist,etc. what business they have with you and when you do talk to the bill collector, simply tell him/her NOT to do so again.

They can contact you at work UNLESS you tell them to cease and desist - but you have to tell them to stop it. It is also better to do this in writing. (KEEP COPIES!)

Do a search on The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. This is a federal law that was created to protect consumers from unfair behavior by debt collectors.

But, even if you tell the debt collector to STOP calling you at work, you still have to pay the bill - it does not cancel out your debt.

Is it legal for you not to pay your bills? Isn't that called stealing?

~♥_♥~
Yeah, it is. My boyfriend was out of a job for a few months and he knew it was the bank calling so he never answered his phone. Then he found out that because of that they had started calling his previous place of employment. He has his job back now (was laid off for the winter months) and all is good. But yeah, it's legal. Kind of rude if you ask me though, but hey if you're avoiding them they have to try something new.
