Is it legal for current boss to contact your new employer .?

my current boss contacted one of his friends at the company i am going to work for and knows more about my new job then i do and is telling things to my current coworkers is this legal

If you signed a release to do a background check on you with former employers it is legal for him to release truthful information about your your job with the former company. It's not nice, but it is legal if you gave the new company permission to get information from them.

hello - yes, its legal, he's talking to a friend. it does raise questions about what his goal is in discussing you with anyone though. If you want the new job, take it, and enjoy. Perhaps the lesson here is to stay mum about where you are going next time you resign. Good luck.

Yikes! He really should NOT be doing this, but it will be so hard for you to prove. That is why they do this-they know they can get away with it in many cases. On the other hand, the friend at your new company should not be talking about you, either. This is bad all the way around. The friend-is he the boss or one of the bosses at the new company? He should not be saying a word about you. And your current boss should not be talking to your co-workers.

Are you sure you want the new job? I would like for something else and not tell your boss where you are going (I know they can find out).

Yes. Your employer is only allowed to give your time of service and whether or not you are eligible for rehire. They can not discuss details of your work.
