Is it legal for my boss to suspend me for a week and dock $30 from my pay.?
Find answers to your legal question.

Is it legal for my boss to suspend me for a week and dock $30 from my pay.?

I ordered tickets for a play 2 months in advance. The play was on a day that my work wasn't even open, so I thought it would be fine. Then, my boss decided to schedule a meeting on the day of the play. I couldn't get out of the tickets, so I decided to miss the meeting which I was only given 2 weeks notice. Since I didn't go, my boss suspended me for 1 week and decided to take $30 out of my next paycheck. I'm wondering if this is legal.

Then, my boss decided to schedule a meeting on the day of the play. I couldn't get out of the tickets, so I informed my immediate supervisor. She told me that I didn't have to come to the meeting. However, when I checked my schedule, I realized I had been suspended 1 week. Also, my boss (not my immediate supervisor) is taking $30 out of my next check. I'm wondering if this is legal, since I had been told by my supervisor that I didn't have to come to the meeting.

It all depends on whether or not in your employment contract it states that you are required to attend these meetings. If not, then you should not be required to be there and therefore he was not legally allowed to do that. Also, he cannot take any money out of your paycheck without a prior explanation IN WRITING. The only reasoning an employer can take any money out of an employees paycheck is pertaining to uniform or gear for work that you are required to contribute to. These are the only times that he can take money out besides taxes and a court order.

A professional person would have advised his boss when he was notified of the meeting . . .
" I would love to attend but there is a scheduling conflict .
I have a previous engagement I cannot change "

You however , just decided to 'miss the meeting' ?

You are lucky you were only suspended ,
I would have pink slipped you . . .

Hey Bradley why didn't you just sit down with him before the meeting and explain your problem to him . Maybe he would have been understanding and not suspended or dock you the $ 30. You might had been able to avoid this.

If you are self employed and a company has hired you out for a job for the past 10 years and has paid you weekly, can he or she change your pay from weely to monthly without notice?
