I live in Houston Texas and my husband is the manager of the mobil home park where we live. We also live on the same property as the landlord in one of his houses however we have seperate mailboxes. He has been checking my mail and holding on to it untill he is ready to give it to me. Im not sure if this is legal. If its not what action can I take on him? Mind you his our landlord / my husbands boss.

checking someone elses mail is a federal offense. Even if mail is put in the wrong box, you don't have the right to open it (or hold it). It's intended for the person it's addressed to. Nobody else. Your landlord is 100% wrong in holding it. Report it to your post office...they'll take it from there. |

No, even if he is not opening the envelopes it is illegal for him to open your mailbox. Weather or not the box is on his property the postal rules govern the mail box itself. You have 3 options:
1 - Report him to the post office and order a postal inspection, odds are they will recommend you to file a report with your local law enforcement (which is a waste of time, police have no say over postal felonies)
2 - Get a post office box and forward your mail
3 - Buy a metal mail box with only a mail slot in the front and a locking door on the back. Don't forget to store or return you bosses mailbox.

that would be considerd theft, and since its mail im pretty sure that would be a felony. try to catch him on film doing that and boom you got his ***. beutifull city to live in by the way i enjoy it very much.xcept today crappy weather. |
