This is a very common practice within certain industries. Sometimes the agreement is "forced" through litigation, so it is also definately legal. Many companies have non-compete clauses in their offer letters or contracts for this reason also. One big company I know has a court agreement that a competitor can hire someone, but the new hire can not "go after" their former employer's clients for 6 months. (This actually was a very generous court ordered agreement, the industry standard is 18 months) |

Seems legal, they may do this because they have had probelms with people going back and forth, and just called a truce. |

Yes in fact where I work we may not go to a competing company on the same project. Nor can they solict us. This helps keep down trade theft and corporate insider trader violations. It is illegal to pass to another company known insider information about another to compete. |
