if you are hurt on the job and have filed under workers comp it is ABSOLUTELY LEGAL in every state.
most insurance carriers require it of the companies they cover.
many insurance carriers have nurses who work as caseworkers who will attend each appointment with you
(depending on severity of injuries and amount of time out of work)
the doctor will do your exam and speak with you alone and will then discuss your case with the employers representative and you at the same time.
the injury is recordable the moment it is filed, all injuries are reported to the state whether workers comp pays or the company pays.
depending on the amount of the doctors bills and whether or not you will miss more then 7 days work some employers pay the bills themselves in stead of the insurance carrier.
EDIT:
HIPAA does not prevent the insurance carrier from seeing your medical files it actually insures the availability. HIPAA was written to ensure that medical information was properly dispensed to those who have a legitimate need to see it and no one else.
HIPAA is not about privacy as many seem to think, it is about proper dissemination of information to insure medical coverage continuance, care and accurate, protected transmittal of medical information thus the name:
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act |

That seems a bit strange. I think it would be a violation of HIPA (and your privacy).
They can however, have a representative from workman's comp go with you. If I were you, I would call an attorney who handles work injuries. It doesn't hurt to ask.
Good Luck |

Your employer has the right to go with you. however when you are in the exam room you have a right to privacy.any doctor that denies you treatment for a injury is risking a lawsuit.if you are not happy with the doctor you have the right to seek out your own as long as you let them know so it will be covered under workman comp. |

I'm in Ohio. I would say as a basic rule of thumb if you are paying for your doctor's visit then you get to say who goes. I think your employer is probably out of line. There are many lawyers who specialize in workers compensation claims, and most of them work on contingency. Call one or more of them and run this by them. I suspect your employer is completely out of line. |
