Is it legal to force an employee into a gain-sharing program?

We have a gain sharing program at our company that I despise for personal reasons. I would LOVE to simply be OUT of the program (no more sitting in hour long meeting that I don't have time for, and no more WONDERING if I will even GET a gain sharing check! We have the program but there is rarely a gain to share) but my boss says there are no exceptions... is there any way I could get around this?

Check with a local attorney. I don't think this sounds right, but states can vary on the answer. Some attorneys will give a free consultation. I had one give me advice over the phone, with the idea that if I needed further help I could then go into their office. Very helpful.

Yes they can require it. Gain is a team effort & everyone must participate to make it effective. Whether it is effective is another story.

Your boss can set your hours and than can include this meeting.

If you are hourly he must pay you for attending.

Assuming that its being deducted out of your payroll check. No, you cannot be forced into a gain-sharing program. Provided that you did not sign a contract, simply let them know in writing that you wish to opt out.
