Is it legal to get your paycheck a day late, even if the payday is a holiday?
Find answers to your legal question.

Is it legal to get your paycheck a day late, even if the payday is a holiday?

My boss gives us our paychecks 5 days after the end of the period. Since this payday is July 5th, he is giving it to us on the 6th rather than just post date it the 5th and give it to us early. This doesn't seem legal. Anyone know for sure?
Additional Details
Jeez, people! Yes, getting it an extra day later does negatively impact my life. This is a new employer that took over the business I work for and my old employer paid us the day after the end of the pay period. The new boss does many things that are illegal, so maybe I am making a list of things just in case he tries to fire me for some kind of b.s. reason. I guess I shouldn't whine that my paycheck is from a personal account with no list of withholdings either?!?

in every state; IF the normal payday falls on a holiday then the payday may, legally, be postponed until the next normal business day..........

It's a common practice that is very legal. If a legally recognized holiday falls on a payday then that payday is the following day.

It would certainly be legal, as no law states otherwise. And be glad you get your paycheck so soon after the payperiod. I've had jobs in the past where payday was 8 days and 13 days after the payperiod.

I don't think many attorney's would take on your case merely for a 24 hours delay. July 4 happens to be a holiday, the biggest US holiday. If you can't take this into account, your employer may see you as uncooperative and fire you as unsuited to the job

I will admit that I don't know for sure. But let me ask you 2 questions.

1. Will getting your paycheck on the 6th instead of the 5th negatively impact your life in any significant way?

2. If you found out that this was illegal, would you take any sort of action against your boss?

Just wondering. Good luck making it that extra 24 hours.
