Once you are off the clock, you are entitled to leave. It's just a job, you actually don't have to do anything you don't want to do. If you are on the clock and it is very slow, you have an obligation to still be there just incase something goes awry, unless your boss tells you otherwise.

It is not legal to make someone stay later than they noted in your job description, unless you signed a contract or something saying that you will stay there as long as your boss/manager needs you to.

If you have clocked out for the day, you should be able to go home.

Would wonder what would happen if you got hurt off the clock at work. As you should not of been there after you sheduled time. Could turn into a he said she said :)

No. In fact if you are forced to wait under Wage & Hour laws of the Department of Labor you have to be paid. If you are waiting because that is a decision you are making and not due to the directives of a supervisor or manager, etc... You wouldn't be entitled to any pay. If you are being forced to wait upwards of two hours and not allowed to leave contact the Department of Labor -- Wage & Hour division immediately at www.dol.gov

It depends on if your Union and what your duty clause states. Or what other work clauses you have. You need to ask for a copy of your rights from the HR director or they may have it posted in the break room.

If you are punched out, you can leave..period. If your boss says that you have to punch out cause its slow, but you have to stick around incase it gets busy again, that is against the law. Contact your state's labor board for more information. I live in Maine, and here, it's illegal for your employer to make you stay off the clock.

There's an old saying ''Marching or fighting, it all pays the same''. The answer is no, you should be paid for the time they ask you to sit. As far as your concerned, when they ask you to sit, THAT IS your job.
