Is it legal to pay different wages?

I work for a large national company with branches nationwide. I am based in the isle of Skye and get less wage than the people in Inverness, even though the cost of living is higher in Skye. I get £1.50 an hour less than the Inverness person doing an absolutely identical job. this applies wether the person is male or female. I travel to Inverness 4 days a week and stay for 5 hours. If i do work there i still get paid £1.50 an hour less than the local workers. Is this legal? Because it certainly aint fair.

Its not fair but its legal.

Ultimately you accepted a job with the money that was on offer and that forms part of your contract.

There are many cases where people, often based in the same office are paid at different rates and it is quite normal.

You could have a word with your boss to see if they can make up the difference.

Speak to your employer. It may be the national minimum wage differs between your side and theirs. Also they may have been there longer? I would defo speak to your employer because of your travel expenses aswell, I could understand if they were paying you travel and taking it from that.

yes they only have to agree a wage with you whether thats less or more than others

Hello from Glasgow. Do you discuss wages with other worker? Do you know that it illegal to discuss your wages with other staff and it can be instant dismissal? A law was passed around 1982 all around the world to make it an instant dismissal. As for different rates of pay you could ask the wages department why there is a difference.
