Is it legal to record a face-to-face oral conversation?
Find answers to your legal question.

Is it legal to record a face-to-face oral conversation?

The oral conversation is between 3 people: my supervisor, her boss, and myself. The topic of the conversation is my work performance. The location is in an office with the door closed. - This recording did NOT involve recording a phone conversation.

The purpose of taping the conversation is to have evidence that both my supervisor and her boss lie. In these meetings, I am able to confront the lies told by my supervisor with OBJECTIVE evidence (not subjective evidence). For example, one time my supervisor reported that I had a job after school. I didn't. Another example, she told her boss that I failed to complete an assignment on a specific day when in fact an e-mail from her (to me) indicated there was no urgency or deadline and the e-mail stated to just get started on it. The list goes on & on of lies that can be disproved with OBJECTIVE evidence, not subjective evidence. Unfortunately, her boss, protects my supervisor and covers up the deception. The result was that I was discharged. There were other illegalities occuring on their part (but unrelated to the taping of a oral face-to-face conversation), such as treating me as an EXEMPT employee when my role as a receptionist was merely to answer the phone and greet visitors. I filed a complaint with the Dept of Labor, Wage and Hour division regarding this matter.
Additional Details
The state is TEXAS.

I'm not one to lawyer up immediately, or suggest it. While I don't have a legal background, I do have an HR background. And you use a very strong word: Slander.

Recording a conversation is only legal when all parties know that, and have consented to, the conversation is being documented. It doesn't matter if it is on paper, digital, video, etc.

If you have evidence that you have been slandered, and that it has compromised your ability to earn a living, it is in your best interest to talk to an attorney who specializes in workplace law in TX. Should you go this route, have all available evidence at the ready (and how you got it) and professionally give them the rundown on the situation. If they feel you have a case, they will tell you how to proceed and what, if any cost there will be. If they seek monetary damages (which is what they would do), they will probably work on contingency - which means you would likely see no out of pocket expense.

It is only illegal if they taped you without you knowledge or consent.

Only if you have their permission.

if it is in the office i would think you need permission to tape them if it is outside and the camera is in your home, car or on yourself i would think you are allowed to.but i dont think it could hurt to show the tape to someone the worst i think they would do is tell you that it cant be used as evidence since they didn't know they were beng taped. i think it would be worth the risk.

It would be illegal. Without the persons agreement to be recorded you are committing an offence

HOWEVER! If it came to court it might be seen as evidence

I dont believe it will be illegal. But it will depend on your state as far as I know. So what state will this convo be taking place?
