Is it legal to request this?
Find answers to your legal question.

Is it legal to request this?

I received an email from management of my section at work whether we have internet at home and if so is it wireless... It has a suspense date to report by, and consequences if I don’t report it.

They are asking this because they intend to start tasking us at home with work...

Is it legal for them to forcibly request this information?

I know it seems like something pointless to complain about but I feel that my rights have somehow been violated and this is none of their damn business.

I think it is legal for them to ask this and also to require you to keep certain equipment at home if it is required for your job. Employers can "at will" add responsibilities to your job. Of course, they have to pay you for the time you spend at home doing the work. If can be in an hourly rate or part of your regular salary. You have a good arguement to ask for them to pay for your Internet service

Ask your state labor board.

They probably want to know if you use wireless because there could be the possibility that a 3rd party could intercept your wireless communications to the network.

Crazy lady
If you currently don't work from home, they can't ask you to provide this information.

your right your home and work are separate. just tell them you current don't have a computer at home that is functional.

if it so important the next will be they will give you a computer for your home and set up Internet for it.
