Is it legal to take away a pay increase in California?

5 months ago my spouse received a 3% pay increase. @
2 months ago the company has reduced the number of work week hours to 35. And now the company is taking back the 3% pay increase. My spose has worked there for 10 years. Is this legal to do in California?

I believe that it is legal everywhere.

If your spouse is not working in a union or under contract that specifically covers this then it is likely very legal. Not good. But legal. The burning question in my head with this is: If the company didn't take these measures, would your spouse have a job at all - or would the company simply be out of business if they didn't reduce costs?

The option would be notice of termination or reduction of income if it were not legal.

So, just in case it is not legal, you do not have a way to force continued employment at a higher salary or wage.

as long as it does not go below minimum wage it is legal
