Only jobs in Transportation ie Truck Driver , Airline Pilot, Train Engineer are regulated by the Government and require a off duty rest period of 10 hours between shifts. Some times you have to sleep fast

Must be legal.
100's of staff on the railways do this once or twice a month.

Start sat 14.00 finish 22.00 then back Sun morning 06.00.
8 hours rest...well not really because I live an hour away from work.

It all depends on where you are. If you are in the USA, work hours are generally regulated by the state. I have worked 3-11 one night and then 7-3 next day and so did many of my co-workers, so I assume it is legal.

In other countries, there are different regulations. One person gave you some UK information here and a link to follow. Basically it all depends what country you are in and if USA, what state you are in.

Basically, the law says that if you're an adult worker you usually have the right to a break of at least 11 hours between working days. A young worker has a right to a break of at least 12 hours between working days. A young worker is a worker under 18 but over school leaving age.

There are exceptions to this however, if:

You have to travel a long distance from your home to get to work or you constantly work in different places making it difficult to work to a set pattern;

You're doing security or surveillance-based work;

You're working in an industry with busy peak periods, like agriculture, retail or tourism;

There's an emergency or risk of an accident;

The job needs round-the-clock staffing (e.g. hospital work); and/or

You're employed in the rail industry and you work on board trains or your activities are irregular or linked to seeing that trains run on time.

Where an exception applies, instead of getting normal breaks, workers are entitled to 'compensatory rest', which is rest taken later, ideally during the same or following working day.

The principle is that everyone gets 90 hours rest a week on average, although some rest may come slightly later than normal.

I think that is legal. I'm not aware of any minimum time period between shifts.I've even heard of some employers giving someone two separate shifts in one day instead of one long shift with a break in between.

yes u hav 2 hav an 8 hour break between shifts

I believe a 12 hr rest is needed unless in the case of dire emergency or working from home.
