If you want to then there is nothing illegal about it.
You cannot be "forced" to. |

US wage and hour lows only state that an hourly worker must be paid at least time and a half for every hour worked over 40 hours in a single week.
As for how many days - no law about that. |

This will depend on what country you are in. In the UK to work more than 48 hours a week you will have to sign a form to agree to this. But otherwise you can work however many days in a row as agreed by you and your employer. |

5 days solidly? Or 5 days at 8 hours a day? There are restrictions on ovetime but i would clarify what you mean first. I dont think a 6 day week is that extraordinary! I don't think you will need a stretcher just yet |

It depends on state law. I'm not aware of any states that have consecutive work day laws. They do in Canada, if you happen to live there.
As long as they pay you for all hours worked and pay you overtime for any hours over 40 in the pay period (if you're not exempt), then they can schedule you pretty much however they please.
Note, however, that if you have a specific contract, your employer must follow that if it makes provisions of this kind.
Hope that helps. :0) |

I worked 12 hour days, every day for five and a half months once. Nobody told me to stop.
Nobody was taking advantage of me, kid! It's called earning a living. |

I found this page because I had the same questions. We live in Montana and my boyfriend's employer has scheduled him graveyard shifts, 3 weeks straight (8-10 hour shifts), with no days off- give him a day or two and then another several weeks. This has been going on for months nowand he's just plain exhausted. Sadly, my online research uncovered the same information. As long as he's being paid overtime, they can continue to do this as long as they want to or until he finally gets fed up. It helps them avoid having to hire a relief person for him. Our town is pretty remote and small and it's not easy to find new employment. I wish there was a law against taking advantage of his position, which at the moment is between a rock and a hard place. Thanks for the information. |
