You do not have to be allowed time off to care for a dependant. It is your responsibility to find appropriate care for your dependants for the hours that you are supposed to be at work. So you can be sacked if you are taking time off to care for people, although your boss must go through a formal warning procedure - i.e. you get a verbal warning, then a written warning, then you get dismissed.
This is not redundancy, though. Redundancy is when your position ceases to exist. In this case, you should have been given a month's notice or paid in lieu of notice, and should have been given redundancy pay if you had a statutory entitlement. Large companies which are making a large number of people redundant have to go through a consultation period with their staff, but this doesn't apply to situations where only a small number of people are affected. |

If you have got more than one years service you may have a tribunal case.
Redundancy is where your job has ceased, diminished or moved to another location, it is not for a boss who is frustrated at you being off! |

probably,your boss had to choose staff to make redundant and decided that as you have other commitments you would be suitable. Go to your Trades Union or see the C.A.B. to make sure that you've been treated lawfully etc. |
