Is it okay to call out your boss on a spelling mistake, she made in a memo to the department?

I wouldn't recommend it. It's helpful to note an error before it goes out. If it's afterward, just ignore it.

I would say it depends on your relationship with your boss...besides anyone can make a typo (and as long it didn't spell something nasty.)

Depends on the boss. If she is open to contructive criticism, you might privately point out the error and offer to proofread her memos before they go out in the future. If she tends to fly off the handle, best to let it alone - it reflects on her, not on you.

Yes, but you should do it tactfully and privately. Your boss may appreciate it. I had a boss who would circulate memos with all kinds of spelling or grammar mistakes. I would make corrections in red ink and return the memo to him. Eventually, he started coming to me to review his memos and correct them before he circulated them to other staff. My corrections made him look better in the eyes of other employees.

If the mistakes are not frequent there is no need to say anything. Everyone makes a mistake now and then. But if your boss consistently makes errors, you could help by pointing them out.

Her Secretary probably made it, I would be careful about pointing out other peoples mistakes at that level. You will have to walk a thin line, or you will be eaten up when you make a mistake. It is a shame but I do believe most company's do this. their HR depts. would go nuts but, they have to.
If you don't make mistakes then your perfect, and that is impossible. We learn by mistakes and that is good. That is how the learning process works. This is how we retain knowledge.

If it was an internal memo, that is only her employees would see it, I would blow it off. If it was going beyond her department I would try to stop it and get it corrected.

Use a smart approach, "Hey boss, I think you got a typo in this memo, isn't XXXX spelled XYXX". Don't use a dumb approach, "Hey moron, don't you know anything...". Just use a smart approach.

That's a tricky one. If you don't & someone else brings it up, then your boss may be mad at you for not bringing it up & saving him/her from embarassment. I think I would quietly bring it up. If he/she is a good boss, they'll appreciate your keen eye for detail. If they're not a good boss, they'll feel you're trying to show them up. All I can say is think of what type of person your boss it & that'll give you the answer.

If you want to keep your job. And it is already out. No. Too late to fix it. Otherwise okay in private if the memo hasnt gone out yet.
