Having been made redundant recently, I'm in a position to branch out and actually find a job I'd enjoy doing. (Luckily, I don't have any real financial worries/debts etc.) As one friend put it though, it's hard to get the job I want without any experience. On the other hand it hard to get experience without a job. Therefore, I'd like to do some voluntary work in order to get the experience, make an impression and end up with a career I enjoy.

Yes, you can. It needs to be for a registered charity though. If it is not a charity, then DWP would expect the employer to pay you, and would treat it as paid work (regardless of whether you actually get paid or not).
Your local Volunteer Bureau will have lots of work available.
You can do as much voluntary work as you like. Your availability for work whilst on Jobseeker's Allowance will be affected. At present, you need to be available for employment immediately. If you are doing voluntary work, it will be at 48 hours notice.
I think you are making a good decision to do some voluntary work. As a Jobcentre Adviser myself, it is something I try to encourage people to do (I mainly work with long-term unemployed people, and they find it difficult to market themselves to employers, as they lack recent work experience). It is also a good way to build up your skills and your confidence. |

Yes it is as long as long as it is voluntary & you receive no payment thats what voluntary means. It is very satisfying

you can do volunteer work but you have to declare it to the job centre im not sure if there is a limit to the amount of hours but you may be able to find out on the job centre plus website |
