When I was about 13, I got caught shoplifting twice: once at Nordstrom's and another at Cala Foods. They were probably in Both pretty much the most stupid decisions I've ever made. I didn't have to go to court. My dad had to pay a fine for Nordstrom's, but there was no fine to pay for Cala since I was under thirteen.
Now, its around 4 years later, and I'm planning on getting a job. While looking at multiple applications, some questions ask, "Have you ever been convicted of a felony?" and I'm unsure on whether to check 'yes' or 'no', even though the choice seems obvious. Because I didn't go to court at all, do I check no? My questions are will places reject me of a stupid choice that I made when I was younger and will these two instances going to be found if a background check is to be done on me?

Since you were a minor when it happened it probably does not matter. If the amount you stole was enough to constitute grand larceny in your state then that is a felony, but you will soon become an adult in which case it will be erased from your record. if the police took you after you were caught and processed you it was probably only a misdemeanor compliance ticket, and i'm assuming since you were only thirteen, you probably stuck some small stuff in your purse and weren't taken to the police station which means you have never been convicted or charged with any crime. you are only civilly liable for monetary restitution of what you stole. in other words, you can get any job you want as long as it isn't with the companies you stole from.

The other posters are wrong. Shoplifting, depending on the amount you shoplifted can be a felony, however, in your case you were a minor so you would have no record. You can check no on the job application and no on your college applications. No to misdemeanors and felonies. The misdemeanor charges will not show up due to your age at the time the crimes were committed.
