I was hired last year in Jan. I was told in July that i was going to get promoted to the acct mgr position. They want me to replace the current acct mgr that it so happens to be the owners niece. Well getting to it i got a small raise after 90days as promised. Then i was told about the promo. In August i got an additional raise for my good work ethics. In December i was told in the beginning of the new year i would be in charge of the acctng office and it's almost March and nothing. About 3 wks ago they asked me to spend part time in acctg and pt in the main office helping out. My co-worker always take short cuts or basically neglect doing their work so i'm basically picking up after their slack. Then his story changed & said he wants me in charge of front office. I'm getting paid good but not were i would like to. Since i have been promised this mgr position i had my hopes set on a higher pay rate. I've realized they will not fire the relative but i feel like i'm not where i should be. I guess my question is i'm very frustrated on their actions and i'm not sure what i can do. Do you have any advice or have you gone thru a similar situation? How can i tell them i'm not happy with the false promises and letting them know i feel like leaving for this reason. I feel that just cuz i get my work done i now have to do everyone else's.

just have an honest, open discussion about where you are in the company, where you want to be and how to get there. ask the owner/operator/manager to sit down and plan out your future, set attainable goals and ask for honest realistic feedback.

With the times changing and more and more companies laying people off or having to close their doors, you need to be thankful that you have a job, and it sounds as if they appreciate you. Now for your problem. You might not know the whole picture. The acct mgr might have been looking on quiting and that's why they were going to offer you the job. But things might have changed for her so she might not be quiting. You know they might have let you go since that position that you were hired for is no long but instead they are offering you a sup position in another department. Again you might be thankful they are keeping you and you have a job. |

Unfortunarly in these times, it's difficult to say you are displeased with your job because there is a line of people ready to take your place. |

Ask for a sit down conference, tell them you thought you have been promoted to a higher position because you feel you have added responsibilities. Tell them that the present compensation is fair for the position you are in, but you feel you have earned a promotion. Be nice and diplomatic. Jobs are hard to come by and you might not get the answer you want. Good Luck |
