Is "introverted lawyer" an oxymoron?
Find answers to your legal question.

Is "introverted lawyer" an oxymoron?

In other words, is being extroverted an essential characteristic of a succesful attorney?

I think that most of the work lawyers do on a daily basis would bore many extroverts that need constant stimulation from other people. So where is the oxymoron?
A lot of introverts have the patience and interest to sort through heaps and piles of text and mull over difficult logical problems, in my view being an introverted lawyer can be a huge benefit. Besides, being an introvert does certainly not equate to being a loner or unsociable.

Nope, many lawyers barely deal with folks .
they specialize and become experts in the bs of laws.

No, many attorneys never see the light of day. There are so many different type of law you can practice and many don't involve speaking with people on a daily basis. If you want to be trial attorney then yes maybe be an intovert would be a problem.

There are many characteristics necessary to be a successful attorney. Being extroverted would obviously help if you are in litigation or criminal defense.

However, if you work in say...real estate, or wills and probate, being an extrovert isn't necessarily a requirement. If you are very good with paperwork and statutes and terminology, you could do great in real estate or tax law.

For me, I'm more of an extrovert which is why I went into insurance defense. I love the high pace and hectic lifestyle of it all.

Are you calling yourself an oxymoron? Take the word oxymoron out of your vocabulary and throw it at some one you don't particularly like. NO! that doesn't mean yourself.

If you consider yourself introverted, you could consider taking a course in "How To Be A Better Speaker."

Sounds like you want to be a lawyer, but think you can't cut it, because you are an introverted person. If you decide to go to college to be a lawyer, some where along the way, you're going to have practice sessions, learning what and how to get your facts across to the judge and the jury in order to win your case. If you want to be a successful lawyer, you will learn to speak up and you will learn.

If you're fighting for a clients innocence, I really don't think you're going to hold back.

Depending on what field you go into, I've seen lawyers who didn't say a word on behalf of their client and let the Judge make the decision and that's just not right.

My daughter had a lawyer (told it was a good idea) to represent her in her disability's hearing. Lawyers usually do the talking. Those making the decisions, let my daughter start off. Eventually, when her lawyer wanted to finally say something, they told him to be quiet, because my daughter was more articulate. She got a yes for her disabilities. Just an example; when it comes right down to it, you can get your point across.

I think you'll make a great lawyer, so stop putting yourself where you don't belong. You go for it .... I'm counting on you.
