Hello all, I am a full timer employee who decided, on my own initiative, to start a part-time Diploma course which has to do with my line of work. I asked my General manager if he can give me any study leave for my exams and he said its ok. Now my question is should this study leave be deducted from my annual leave?
I preferably require European people to answer this since im from a Euopean coutry and this may help me better. If you have any links to show me better kindly paste. Thanks alot

Yes but if he has accepted to give me study leave...should it be deducted from my annual leave? I mean why do they call them study leave? Might aswell not be called study leave if that is the case!

It is not deducted from your annual leave.
HOWEVER (depends on the Company) it MAY be UNPAID leave ... you should clarify with your Manager (if this is a large company, chances are it's an 'informal' agreement & you will be paid .. since it is MORE hassle for your Manager to inform HR & Wages than to simply let you take the day off for exams)
NB> some Companies are so keen to get their workforce trained that they will help you with course fees / exam fees .. if you pass your exams and decide to continue to study, you can always ask :-) |

In the UK there is no statutory right to study leave - only you can negotiate this with your employer. |

this law has only just come into force this year that employees who work 4 an employer with a work force of more than 250 employees have the right 2 ask 4 a study licence or leave, it is up 2 the employer whether he takes it from your annual leave or not. the same with bank holiday, although you are entitled 2 5.6 weeks your employer can include bank holidays in total. i've just been reading an article on the subject |
