we have to go to a meeting it takes 45 minutes of drive time and its a 5 minute meeting so we only get paid for 5 minutes ... should they pay more?

It's really up to the employer. They should pay more but don't have too. You might want to talk to your boss and see if you can have a conference call. |

it's totally up to the employer,
If your doing this alot I would suggest you fill out an expense report for mileage and hand it to them.
unless you are in a company vehicle.
understand that laws vary from state to state but generally speaking the employer holds all the cards |

If the meeting is taking place during your off-time--say a weekend--then, yes, you SHOULD be paid for that 45 minutes since you're technically on company business.
But, if this is occuring during the work day, then no.
How is transportation being handled? Are they providing it or are they covering your mileage?
Also, what the heck? What's so important about this meeting that you have to drive 45 minutes for a 5 minute meeting?

Technically you should be paid for that 45 minute drive, but unfortunately many places don't.
I know when I travel for work, I'm not compensated for my time until the plane takes off the ground...never mind it takes me an hour to get to the airport.
If it still bothers you pipe up and express yourself. Is the 5 minute meeting worth your time? If not, talk to your manager and see if there is someone else willing to go. |
