Is there a legal word for this?

if you don't want your name released for something?

like you got into a car accident and they wanted to put it on tv. but you tell them not to say your name or show your picture or something?

your name can be withheld in cases where you've been victimized with intent, but in public accidents, names are rarely withheld. you can only stop them from taking your pic or video in your own property.

If this is a production company who wants to put the accident on tv, (think Cops) they would have you sign a legal contract called a release. This release would be allow the production company to use all or only certain details for their show, usually for a fee paid to you. You may be able to negotiate the use of you name by replacing it with an alias, not using pictures of your face, or scrambling your image in such a release.

If you are a local public figure or if the accident is deemed to be news worthy and it appears on a news program, you would have little control over what is said. Some reporters will allow a person to remain anonymous or block the mention of their name. In most cases the reporters are on such a fast deadline there is no time to even ask them not to use a name, they will use name, town and even age of the victim.

You might be thinking of "invasion of privacy" but in a car accident, I don't know if you could enforce that.

Unless of course you hired an attorney.
