Ok- private company, NO hr or anyone to go to or report to.
They had someone years ago make these terrible shelves for binders and books to be stored on. They are unstable looking and the binders are heavy. We got a new girl at work whom is scared because they would basically hit us in the face- books and shelf if they fell. She wants to complain but I have complained several time in the past and the boss told me "the shelves were fine". Plus I think he like to use the excuse the binders are up there so he can look at our computer while we are working- so we are not playing on the internet. He always has to "use" a book or a binder every hour on the hour- Instead of just asking what we are working on. One has broke about 5 years ago and I refused to replace it but that was on the side of me. I would purposely brake another one but it would crush my desk and my computer.... plus it would fall on me in the processes.
Is there anyone I can report them to for having these condition in the work place?

you can try OSHA but.....
don't be surprised if they laugh you off.
OSHA has more then they can handle dealing with real life threatening situations and conditions.
if you want to get someones attention contact the employers workers compensation insurance carrier. if these shelves did fall and hurt someone the insurance carrier is the one who would be out the money. let them know about the potential for injury and they will follow up. insurance companies hate to actually spend money so they will get this corrected if there is an actual risk. |

Google for the Occupational Safety and Hazard Office (OSHA) in your state or local area.
That's their job--to see that the structural and safety regulations about work-place logistics are followed correctly. |

If they actually create an unsafe workplace, you could complain to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration at the US Department of Labor. Check their web site at www.dol.gov/osha for the local office and how to get a complaint filed. |
