there is NO federal law governing break for adults only minors, some states do have provisions for breaks but usually only for meals |

There is federal law requiring breaks, so NJ must meet or exceed federal standards. Your employer must post federal employment law poster, and probably state employment law poster as well. Read the posters.
If they are not there, call the US Dept of Labor and your state's labor department. And if your employer is not paying minimum wage, not providing break time (lunch break need not be paid!), etc. complain about that at the same time. The DOL has to investigate and ensure the law is followed, and they can impose fines, etc against the employer. |
