Is there anybody out there that got a law degree, but is not a lawyer?

What do you do now and was it necessary to take the bar exam?

I've heard there are currently more law school students than there are lawyers in the world. I've also heard that 60% of people with law degrees don't practice and 80% don't recommend law school.

These are reasons I've been considering a MBA instead.

alot of people are like that. if u pass the bar exam, then u can only be called a lawyer, but who knows if ur gonna get practice as a lawyer though?

A.Lee
Although most opt to take the bar exam whether or not they decide to practice law, not everyone decides to become a lawyer. For example, many politicians are non-practicing lawyers as are teachers/professors, writers and businessmen/women. These people use their law degree as an advantage to their main career.

Good luck.

um yes.... I ended up teaching history at a college. I never took the bar exam.

I have friends in that position.

Taking the bar exam is a personal choice. Some find that the J.D. degree helps them in other fields of endeavor, and don't enter the practice of law. An ABA accredited J.D. is the most common educational ticket to be allowed to take the bar, but J.D. holders are not required to do it.

Some of them go into closely allied fields: government contracting, real estate, etc.

There are M.D.'s who never get licensed either. One is author Michael Crichton, who got his medical degree at Harvard.

I have a law degree and have passed the bar exam, so I can call myself a lawyer. However, the jobs I have worked have not required me to pass the bar. Law is really a waste if you're not at a job where you can use your skills that you've learned. I would have been better off just getting a bachelor degree and climbing the corporate ladder.
