Yes!
Generally speaking, a secretary will be competent at shorthand and have a good typing speed.
An assistant will likely have niether of those skills, and just help out generally.

It will depend upon the company. Many times assistant and secretary are interchangeable terms.
In some instances the exec assistant would be above doing secretarial duties. He/she would assisant the CEO with more critical duties than shorthand, filing, etc. |
