Is there some sort of law that forbids a teenager in high school from working full time at a job?

Is there some sort of law that forbids a teenager in high school from working full time at a job? I'm looking to go work for this cake decorating store but my mom said there may be a law that forbids someone in school from working full time? Anyone know if this is true ot what the law is or w.e?

Nope. None whatsoever, though its best you do part-time...And try to aim for places that might help your futur. How about a fast-food place? Like McDonald...Or Wendy's...or anything else...Thats because you will either have a little bit of cooking or cashier expiriece...And if you are gonna do what I suggest, dont work for janitor lol , no use in that...

There are child labor laws. From what I remember being a kid, if you were between 14-16 you had to get a work permit (basically a documented OK from your parents and the employer). It also restricted you from operating machinery (power saw/drills, forklifts, etc) and from certain jobs all together, such as roofing & mining. It may well restrict hours worked per day, week or month too. Check some of the state government sites (Department of Labor I'm guessing)

there is. I think it's different in each state, and also it depends on how old you are. I believe if you are between 16-18 you can work up to 20 hours a week, and you have to be done by 10. but if you are over 18 the laws don't apply, but you still should limit your hours so you have time to sleep and do your homework. look it up in your state.

Finish high school before you get a full time job. You may think that it would be better to start working now but in the long run it won't. Especially not at a cake decorating store of all things. Just finish school first then do whatever you want. Come on you will graduate soon.
