I have been working for the same employer for about a year and a half now. Since I began working here, all he has done is made me feel small and unworthy. He insults my hair, my clothes, the fact that I don't wear make up. He even makes jokes about the the province where I grew up. I am absolutely fed up with all of his insults and how he thinks he is better than everyone else. Do you think this is verbal or emotional abuse? because sometimes it sure feels like it......

It is ABSOLUTELY not proper for him to make any disparaging comments about your physical appearance or your home. That is the definition of a "hostile workplace environment". I would speak to your HR person/people & take the next appropriate action. |

Report him to HR & leave. It doesn't matter if he gets scolded or not, work is stressful enough without having to put up with that garbage. It will drain your spirit day after day. Just leave, and do it soon. Unless you 2 are the only people in the office, it doesn't sound like anyone else came to your defense either. Bad workplace. Get out.
BTW, let this serve as a lesson on your next job or life in general. We teach people how to treat us. Tolerating bad behaviour *guarantees* you'll get more of it. You don't have to be nasty, but you must learn to set boundaries with people around you. There's no need to wait until the situation is intolerable (it's probably too late by then) to do something about it. |

yes this is abuse, but from your question I believe youare in Canada where you cannot sue an employer for " creating a hostile work situation" like you can in the states. |

i think so too. noone should be able to talk to anyone just any old kinda way
if youre not comfortable around him, and you feel like your day gets THAT MUCH SH.IT.TI.ER when he comes around you might want to look for a job elsewhere... |
