This all depends on your contract, in the job I work with which is heavily Unionised still, the rules are before 6hrs a 10min break, after which 6hrs - 9hrs a 20min break after which a 30min or 2 x 20min break and a 10min needs break can be taken.
Some Employers require more flexability from employees and I know that a number of workplaces give employees just 1 30 min break in 8 hrs.
Best to check your contract or talk to your staff rep about it. |

Bardic is right 20 mins is all you are legally entitled to in a 6 hour work period.
However if you wear specific work uniform and you are required to change out of it before your break then that has to be in your employers time not your rest break of 20 mins, the same again if you have to change back into work wear. i.e food factories.
Read the terms and conditions of your employment contract and if you are being requested to work additional hours more than what is stated on there then you can refuse.
Join a union .... no one has to know, it can be done discreetly and you can have all the answers you need regarding employment law at the end of a phone or e mail. They are great for helping out on not just employment matters but everything legal. |

Yeah it's supposed to be an hour if you're working 9 hours. In my old job (which was an office job) We had two 15 minute breaks, one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and 30 mins lunch. |

Rest breaks during the working day
If you are aged 18 or over, and your working day is at least 6 hours, you have the right to an uninterrupted rest break of at least 20 minutes. Your contract of employment may be more generous than this. There is no law about when this break should happen although government guidelines say that the break should be taken during the day rather than at the beginning or the end. You are entitled to spend your break away from your workstation. Lunch breaks count as rest breaks. Hope this helps |

Job sounds like it is getting better with more hours and more pay. Sounds like a good job...If ya need a 15 minute break go sit in the can -- like everyone else.. If you position requires a replacement while you take lunch or break.. Better ask the supervisor how it should work for breaks... |

If you're an adult worker (that is, over 18), you'll normally have the right to a 20 minute rest break if you're expected to work for more than six hours at a stretch. That's all you're legally entitled to.
A lunch or coffee break can count as your rest break. Additional breaks might be given by your contract of employment. There's no statutory right to 'smoking breaks'.
The requirements are:
the break must be in one block
it can't be taken off one end of the working day - it must be somewhere in the middle
you're allowed to spend it away from the place on your employer's premises where you work
your employer can say when the break must be taken, as long as it meets these conditions |

You are working, you are obsessing over not working. Work till you are tired and talk to your boss about what works for you. Work hard and earn your breathers. |

I suggest you contact your states Attorney General about the "legality" and minutes you may be allowed to "take breaks". |
