Is this unfair practice at work?
Find answers to your legal question.

Is this unfair practice at work?

Our company have launced a new product, and they are going to give Full Time staff a free product each.

However, the permanent Part time staff are not going to get anything.

Does this amount to discrimination of some sort or what?

I was totally angry when heard this

My plan is to email CEO and make my feelings known

Yes, go ahead and email the CEO and give him a piece of your mind. You tell him!

Then plan on making part time work into full time leisure.

no thats just rewarding their full time workers, just let it go
and dont email the CEO thats what gets you fired

maryjane
get over it, its just a product. you can probably go out and buy it on your own.

Heather
if you are part time, they have no obligations to you, they can fire you canytime they want for no reason, basically it's not fair, but it's the way it is because you've chosen to be partime.

Just think, some places who employ part timers don not get the option of health care... same would go with other perks...

They don't care.....especially about the part time people.

Is it unfair, yes. Is is illegal, no. If you email the CEO and make your feelings known, you could be standing in the unemployment line. Alot of companies split full time shifts into two part time positions for this very reason.

pepsigirl
i think it's unfair cuz all employees should be treated equal when it comes to something like this. i would tell your CEO about it and tell him how you feel about it. just becareful how you word it because, even though they say that they welcome comments and want employees to speak up, they may hold it against you later

If they had a free product only for men, or only for Asians, or only for Christians, it would be discrimination. What they are doing isn't fair, and doesn't show appreciation for the part time workers, but is perfectly legal.

It's actually pretty typical for companies to give perks to some employees, like a free weekly lunch for management. They only HAVE to give you your agreed-upon pay.

Judy
It's certainly not illegal - they don't have to give you or anyone else anything. And it doesn't even seem unfair - full time staff usually gets perks that part time doesn't, particularly in the benefits area.

Frankly, if you email the CEO complaining about this, you'll look pretty silly.

SeasonedRecruiter
No, it's not discrimination. Most companies offer benefits only to employees working FT hours. A free product is a benefit.

You can e-mail the CEO, but, it will only reflect poorly upon you.

I don't see why you're so angry. I think you're being very immature.

Why should part time workers get full time benefits?
If part time workers get all the full time workers benefits that isn't fair to them.

You didn't tell us the product. That might matter, oddly enough.

Also, aren't you prolly in breach of that clause in the heap of papers you signed prior to your hire? You know, the one where you promise not to commit espionage or share information about new products?

Definitely let CEO know your displeasure,
No unfair practice violated but definitely not a morale booster.

Steve is cool
Is it unfair? Sure it is, but when the company is giving something away they can choose to give it to full time employees if they choose to.
