I have been laid off & my boss wants me to attend every day in case work comes in,I need to get there at 7.30 am every day and hang around til something happens,can he do this and can i get out of it to find a permanent job?

Sounds like your boss is trying to help you out as much as he can - he can't rehire you but he can try to put you in the right place at the right time if work should come in.
With that said he certainly can't "force" you to. If you really don't want to do it at all, just don't go. What's the worst he's going to do? You've already been laid off.
Or you might want to talk to him and ask him how realistic the possibilities of getting work are, what would he do in your shoes, etc. He might have some good advice. |

He'd have to pay your for the time from when he requires you to be there until he sends you home.
And of course you can get out of it - just tell him you aren't going to do that any more. |

He can't do this unless he pays you for your time. Sounds like he can't afford to pay someone full time so will use you to be his call girl. I would find another job. |
