JSA allowance question?

Some people do temp work and claim JSA at the same time? They would ring a agency, some days they work monday, tuesday, and next week they may work fridays, and some time they don't work at all because they don't have any work?
how does the JSA work with temps?
thanks

You are allowed to work less than 16 hours a week, and still claim JSA. If you work for 16 hours or more, then you have to clsoe your claim. You are only allowed to earn £5 a week (£10 if it is a couple), before your JSA is reduced. Anything over £5 a week is taken off your JSA, you keep your wages. So if you do 7 hours a week at £6 an hour, earning £42, £37 will be taken off your JSA. Many people keep on signing even if their JSA rate is nil, as claiming JSA means that they are still getting their National Insurance Contributions paid, which may not be the case if their pay from employment is less than about £90 a week (or thereabouts, I'm not sure of the exact amount you need to be earning before N.I.contributions are deducted from your wages).
If you get a part time job, you will need to notify your Jobcentre Plus office. They will fill some forms in with you, and you will be given one called a B7, which you need to bring in each time you sign (you get a new one each time). On this you would detail how many hours you have done each week, and how much pay you have received. |

if you're claiming JSA you can do odd days of work without signing off.
My friend did this last December.
What happens is, you fill in a form and declare how many hours you worked and what you earned, providing it's few enough hours (I think the limit is 16 but I'm not sure) and the wages are low enough, you will not have to sign off, and will still get council tax benefit...etc.
BUT they will dock your money. I think they let you keep a fiver!
It's something like:
JSA - wages + £5
so if you normally got £60 dole per week (for sake of this) but earned £40 in a temp job one week, they would let you keep the £40 wages but would only pay you £25 dole. So you'd end up a fiver better off, but you would keep your other benefits like housing benefit.
My friend did it for the work experience and the hope of getting more hours, enough to sign off the dole. |

you will probably be better off ringing the right authorities and asking :) i think you have to work atleast a couple hours though? |

I understand that you are allowed to work up to 18 or 20 hrs before it would effect your job seekers allowance. Check with your local JobCentre or DWP office they should know. The idea is that you should be able to get some work without losing your benefits. Of course it also depends on the rate of pay. |

I have a tricky question. I signed on for JSA on February, after few months of battle and appeals I was finally told I am allowed to get benefit. I have been working part time all that time (around 10 hours a month), but my employer pays the wages 2 months later. Basically the wages for November I received on December, the wages from December I received on February ... On December I was offered more hours so my February payslip exceed 300 pounds... and I informed I will not receive JSA for this month as I worked more than 16 hrs per week! But I didnt! On February I only worked 10 hrs and cant help I received my payment 2 months after....so now they debating what to do....
Has anyone had similar situation? I was told when I first signed on that they will take only into account hrs I worked since I signed on JSA.... I am confused now...any advice? |
