Job application - I have a misdemeanor record in another state?

Do I need to write it down? I live in california but I have a record in washington. This isn't an application for a huge corporation or anything, just a small company with an entry level position.

lil bit
Only if they ask; you may want to get your record sealed. Then it is ok to say "no" to that question

Yes, if it asks for any records, it will come up if they look for it and can be grounds for dismissal later on if you don't include it or try to hide it. If it the misdemeanor doesn't have anything to do with the job you're applying for, then they probably won't care.
By the way... YOU can't get your record sealed. Once you're convicted of something, it's on your record for anyone to see, unless you are a juvenile.

If you hope to be in that job for a long period of time or you think it can lead you to your future carrier then please declare it now.

They might get to know when you start applying to be the big boss.

It all depends on how extensive of a background check they do. If its a simple misdemeanor, then yes you should list it. If they dont do a back ground check then i wouldnt worry about it. I live out here on the east coast and i dunno how the states are set up over there but NC is a state and VA is a commonwealth and they normally do not cross reference state records

I believe they would only ask about a felony conviction. Good luck getting the job!!!! :)

Read the application form carefully to see what they are asking you. Most applications will ask you "Have you ever been convicted of a (felony) (misdemeanor)?" If they ask you the question of a felony then you can honestly answer the question no as your crime was a misdemeanor.

Most companies are only asking or looking for felony convictions. Read it carefully then you can answer it honestly and not get yourself in a bind for fraud. If they do ask you about misdemeanors, then you had been explain your situation as they will most likely do a background check and find it anyways.

I would write it down, just incase they look and find out - it's better for them to hear it from you first.

it depends how bad of a misdemeanor it is. if its something you think they should know about, tehn you should tell them. if not then forget it and keep writin the applic
