Job centre.. Has anyone else experienced this "we do care" approach?

I was made redundant recently and on my 1st sign-on at the Job centre the member of staff mentioned about a job on her screen. I asked for her to print it out, and took it home to consider. On my 2nd sign-on, she asked if I had replied and I said no due to location, travel costs, etc.. I have today received a letter saying my benefits could now be stopped because I "refused an offer of employment".. Now don't get me wrong, I check there website every day and need a job fast and to be honest only jobs going on there are ones no one wants. Is this just a case of "kicking a bloke in the Gonads when he is down" only after 2nd sign-on. Not like I have been unemployed for 3 years or more.
Additional Details
From being on £365.00 a week take home to £94.65 a week as couple and 2 kids I woulden't be looking to get employment fast.. Joke

What they gave you was a "subbed" offer of a job vacancy. You should have been told that you are expected to follow up on the vacancy via phone or letter as failure to do so might lead to loss of your benefit. You can appeal against this and you should inform them that the adviser did not point this out to you.

I am sorry that you feel that way about the job centre staff, most are very helpful and deal with everything that get thrown at them and some with out complaint.

That's bad news. They really are graduates of the charm school aren't they!

I had similar experience when I was made redundant. They look at you like you're sub human scum.

Unfortunately many people on this site are anything but sympathetic. The more swivel eyed variety will complain that Job Centre staff should be trained by the Gestapo.

From what I see you didn't get an "offer of employment", if a screen print out is now classified as a job offer, then I've had those in their thousands! I would ask them to clarify exactly what is meant by a job offer, and make it clear that you never ASKED to be given the print out. I really don't like the way the job centre works. it seems there are rules for genuine claimants, and an entirely different set of rules for those stringing everyone along. You are not the only one who has experienced this hypocrisy.
