Do you enjoy your job? Please specify whether you are a lawyer or a paralegal, which type of law you specialize in, and how you like it... I'm thinking of getting into a career in law. Thank you!

Well I have taken the jobs of Certified paralegals, eventhouh I still haven't received my certificate or degree in legal studies as I am working on that. I am into the immigration law and I greatly enjoy it. There are new people to meet and talk to. Its challenging as well. Since every case is different, you really have to keep up with the current law changes. You also have to use you imagination to find solutions to the clients problems. Also, you have to be team-oriented because you will need the assistance of others.
Its a great job, and its really gratifying. What really makes a difference is the law firm you work for. Money wise (even if you didn't ask) its quite good. |

I am a paralegal with a degree and I find the field of law very interesting. If you go into the paralegal field decide what field of law you want to work in. I started as a real estate paralegal and I did not like it but I do like Family Law and Estate Planning. Good Luck! |

I'm a lawyer who doesn't practice law. I went into business and found it to be very enjoyable. Like anything worthwhile, it is a challenge. However, it is a fun challenge. |

I am a paralegal with a degree in nursing and paralegalism. I work for a small very busy firm and really enjoy it. I work for a personal injury, med mal firm. We do lots of federal claims. My favorite cases are the nursing home negligence cases because I love nailing them for neglecting and mistreating our elderly. The law really evokes emotion in me. I get angry about what some people have to endure, I get happy when they get a good settlement and are able to move on with their lives. |

The opportunities for a paralegal really depends on the specialty. The most in demand paralegals are those in the litigation field; followed by corporate paralegals who are responsible for maintaining corporate records, articles of incorporation, etc. While the "least" markeable [but the "highest" paid] paralegals are in the field of intellectual property [i.e., patents, trademarks] and immigration law. In conclusion, choose your paralegal courses accordingly, with emphasis on litigation preparation [discovery], docketing/calendaring of incoming pleadings [calendaring] and trial preparation [creating Exhibit tabs, Bajii jury instructions, etc.]. The "pro" side of a litigation paralegal is often "unlimited" overtime which can amount to a high salary range of $65,000 to $75,000 per year, while the "downside," being constantly pressured to meet a monthly client billable quota. And failing to meet that quota, often results in the paralegal's overnight dismissal. It's not a pretty picture. I just want to lay out what really happens in the real world of litigators and their relationship with subordinate paralegals.
Good luck! |
