I gave a gf my pin number a few months ago because i trusted her, she also had an extra key to my place in case I needed her (I am diabetic). This past friday she let her boyfriend in to my house and stole my purse so he could clean me out (over $750) and now I cannot get my son to a very important appt. at Childrens hospital! Can I reterieeve my money from the bank? I gave her the pin but she gave him the pin and he used the card????

Because SHE gave him the information and not me, I would never have.... if I charge BOTH of them would it be POSSIBLE to retrieve the funds? They have him on camera!

Your EX-friend has made the right first step. If the police will issue a theft report, get the police report and forward a copy to the bank. For a Debit transaction, you don't have the same rights as a credit card, but I think fraud and theft are covered. Even if the police prosecute, you can still take your claim to small claims court to get a judgment against him.
If you haven't already, immediately change your PIN and locks. |

Pin numbers should not be given to anyone. This is the first thing you are told by the banks. the fact that you were made aware of this and you still chose to ignore this will make it impossible to claim your money back from the bank. you acted negligently. |

Sorry, the bank won't replace your money - it wasn't THEIR fault and they did nothing wrong. You could sue her bf for it, but if he doesn't have it, that won't get your money back either. And sounds like he's already being legally charged, which is good but again won't get your money back unless he's convicted and part of his sentence is restitution.
It would be possible to charge both of them - but that still doesn't get your money. You are the one who screwed up by giving her your pin - I guess you know that now. |
