Labor law break hours?

since i worked for my employer i never had any 15mins break. i mean i know my work is not that heavy. i'm allowed to use computer/phone.

but for courtesy most of the time i ONLY take 20mins lunch time.

today for some reason i needed to go out and mail out something..they didn't let me. i was like what??

i mean by california labor law i know they should give me break time..am i right? it's not my fault if part of my job is very slow...most of the time even it's not part of my job....i'm doing.

California is one of the few state that requires breaks and rest periods

but.................................
during a PAID break the employer does not have to allow you to leave the premises.
during an UNPAID break generally they can not restrict you.

there are issues concerning breaks that need to be corrected immediately by the employer but your question concerning being able to leave is not one of those issues.
were they right to treat you this way? NO but you need to address that concern with the employer. if they don't want to treat you fairly you can file a claim at:

Yes. By law depending on number of hours worked. Must be more than 4 hours. With a good job you seem to enjoy and is pretty lax for you just be sure to pick your battles and weigh the pro versus the con of them not letting you go this time. Good luck

in PA at least, you get a paid 15 min every 4 hrs and an unpaid half hr every 6 hrs. don't see why CA would be any different.
