Laid off from work - Help!?

Hi there,
My daughter applied for a job at Budgens in Chingford (It used to be a Somerfield store that was converted to a Budgens store around 2 weeks ago). With their new name, they wanted a few new people. My daughter applied (The assistant manager knows me and recommended that she give a CV in so as to apply for the job), had an interview, got accepted, signed the contract and started working last Wednesday. Hell, even the uniform was ordered, the times she would work etc.
Now, the manager of the store got into an argument with the assistant manager, and my daughter was let go (the manager said to give any excuse as to the dismissal but said to just use the excuse that she didn't do what was required of her) this wednesday, even though she did everything required and everyone working there can vouch for that since she became friends with everyone. However, the manager hasn't phoned her up to tell her that, and the assistant manager said she is not doing it, the manager has to phone her and fire her himself.
What rights does she have? What can she do about it? She really needs this job, and in the current climate, being 16 years old, it'll take her forever to find another. I wanted to go down there and punch his face in, but hey you can't blame me since that's what a father normally feels with such an unfair dismissal.
I'm about to write to the regional manager and the head office over this.

What is your goal? To get her job back? Will she want to work in that environment with that unfair boss? Or is your goal to get the manager fired? Do you want that kind of negativity coloring her work record from the beginning? All these questions need to be considered before moving. |

I would just move on I would never want to be in a job were i tried to force them to keep me. Sets your daughter up for a world of home |

From what you write: she has not been fired yet. Make sure that if she does get fired there are signed written statements from the company about that.
For more specific legal advice you need to find a lawyer since I am dutch.
