Law school?? Can someone describe the experience??

I've spent the last few years debating on whether or not i should attend law school. I've heard different things from different people. I was just wondering what some people who are attending or who have attended law school think about the experience. How is the work load? social life? etc.

It is what you put into it. If you want to excel, get a job at a big firm and make mad cash, you'll be studying a lot, doing journals and other extracurricular stuff, and generally be very busy (although I should say it still probably isn't as intense as med school). If you want to just cruise through getting a B average, it's not too tough to do if you're reasonably clever. The first year is rough all round, but after that you'll probably have lots of free time (I suggest getting a job to pay off the absurd loans you will accrue). I put a modest amount of effort forward, def more than the minimum required but certainly didn't spend all day at the library, and got through just fine, and was generally able to go out whenever I wanted, stay up late playing poker, etc.; so long as you make up for it the next day.

Overall, though, I would not recommend it unless you have something specific in mind you want to do. A law degree will never hurt you, even if you don't go into the law, but not only is it very expensive, it's also three years you won't be earning a solid paycheck, advancing in a career, etc.....I went to law school right out of college not knowing what else i wanted to do. While it didn't hurt me, and i have a solid job now, I somtimes regret going just because I'm not raking in the dough like I had sort of assumed I would and think I'd be better off in a comparable non-legal job without all the loans etc. I now have.
That said, if you're sure you want to get into the law, or have a pretty good idea you want to, definitely go for it, and don't be put off by how difficult it is, or how much time it will occupy--it takes effort, certainly, and the three or four weeks of exam time is TRULY painful--but it's really not all that bad.
